I have been running around like crazy–decorating for Christmas, cooking with my apron on, dancing to Christmas carols, and mostly, Christmas shopping! Let me tell you, it is seriously hard sometimes to figure out what to get for your friends and family, especially the ones who aren’t even in the same state as you.
So, you know what I settled on? Photographs. Of course 🙂 For my 2011 brides and grooms, ornaments for their 1st Christmas tree together featuring a photograph from their wedding–for parents and grandparents, prints of photographs from my own wedding and prints from family events that I have photographed professionally. Family and friends: Please disregard the previous paragraph and pretend like you don’t know what you are getting for Christmas. Thanks.
Anna (one of my former brides and now ATL-bestie) and I went shopping together last week and discussed the fact that gifts aren’t really gifts as much as exchanging my $50 bill for your $50 bill. That is, unless the gift is heartfelt. Seriously, gift cards to Target and Walmart are awesome (believe me, I got married last year–I know), but sometime I prefer a handmade card, or really just anything that says, “I know you and I love you enough to get you something memorable and totally you.”
That being said, let’s combine the two. Photography and gift cards. A gift that says, in part, “I know you, I love you, and you are beautiful. I want you to remember that.” Okay, so the cardstock that the gift card is printed on doesn’t say that, but you get the idea.
If your mom asked for socks, well then by all means, get her some nice, fuzzy slipper socks with the awesome grips on the bottom. But, if you are still trying to figure out the perfect gift for her (or your dad, daughter, or best friend), then just maybe this is it. Sweaters, potholders, and fruitcakes get re-gifted, but the photographs that result from your gift will be cherished for, well, ever. Just sayin’ is all.
In the interest of full disclosure, an iPad 2 is a close runner up 🙂 The geek in me just has to get that out there.
Now, on to the lovely little details:
Gift cards are available in any amount, from $10 and up. They can be used towards a photography session (like the newly crafted Couture Lifestyle Collection), or if you are buying for someone who has already had a shoot with me (like one of my amazing brides and grooms), the gift cards can be used towards prints, canvases, metal fine art prints and even albums!
AND…here’s the kicker: For each gift card that you purchase for your mom, or sister, or whoever, you get a gift card for yourself for 20% of the amount. So, hypothetically speaking, say you purchase a $50 card for your best friend to use towards a session of she and her boyfriend or husband, or even so she can treat herself to a classy yet sexy boudoir shoot. With that $50 card for her, you get a $10 card for yourself. If you want to purchase a $350 card, then you would get your own gift card for $70! Bam, just like that! Merry Christmas to you!
Your complimentary gift card (would that be a gift gift card?) could be used towards a session for yourself or to purchase prints from your friend/family members session–whatever the heck you want! For those mothers and grandmothers who have been begging your kids and/or grandkids for photos of their family, nudge them along with a gift card, then you get your prints for free! 🙂
Now, don’t you worry, you will receive a physical gift card, wrapped up all pretty, so that they have an actual gift to open. Ah, the joy of opening gifts at Christmas time!
Don’t forget, while I am based in Atlanta and still travel to Alabama regularly, gift cards are available to anyone, anywhere!
One last thing: The gift cards expire in exactly one year from Christmas 2011, so everyone on your gift list has PLENTY of time to book a session, etc. Hooray!
